Mitsubishi closes design center in Cypress, Cali.

Mitsubishi this week closed down its design center in Cypress, California laying off about 60 employees in the process. Mitsubishi said that it is focusing on consolidating its design work to its main corporate headquarters in Tokyo.

“The company’s commitment has been to design global vehicles, and having a single design studio is consistent with that strategy,” Dan Irvin, a spokesman for Mitsubishi Motors North America.

Irvin said that Mitsubishi will keep its Cypress headquarter open. The office employs a total of 470 people.

General Motors independent auditor said yesterday that there is “substantial doubt” about the company’s viability plan, outlining a number of scenarios that could lead to a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.

GM is currently waiting on hearing back from the government on a request of up to $16.6 billion in federal aid. Top executives said yesterday that if GM doesn’t receive $2 billion by the end of this month, it will run out of cash. They said the company needs another $2.6 billion in April to stay afloat.

The auditor rating of “substantial doubt” has led to some very scary headlines for GM, but the executives are talking back. CFO Ray Young said that GM is very carefully monitoring its global liquidity. The Detroit automaker lost $30.9 billion last year and ended 2008 with $14 billion in cash. That is about $3 billion more it needed to pay all of its bills.

Young said that the U.S. Treasury has not hinted on whether they will provide additional funding.

Steve Rattner and Ron Bloom, advisers to Obama’s auto task force will be heading to Detroit on Monday to meet with GM, Ford and Chrysler executives. The two will have a hand in helping the U.S. Treasury decide whether GM and Chrysler should get another $21.6 billion in aid.

According to AutoCar, the new concept has been re-badged as the zC and hints at a future model that will compete with the production Nissan Qazana recently seen at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show.

Sources familiar with the project said that the production version of the zC has a rear end that resembles the Lance Sportback with raised ground clearance. The production model, which is still three years away, will be built using the GS platform from the Lancer and Outlander.

LINEA Vincerò – Mansory refines the Bugatti Veyron 16.4

“Vincerò! Vincerò! ¬– I will win”, that is the self-confident exclamation from Nessun Dorma, probably the most famous tenor aria from Giacomo Puccini´s opera Turandot. And Vincerò is also the name of the latest automobile accessory line by refining specialist Mansory. Mansory already finds many parallels for the new name: The plot of the aria stems from a Persian tale of 1001 days which also relates to the standard motorisation of the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 with 1,001 hp. On the other hand, it should also refer to the origin of Kourosh Mansory, the founder and CEO of Mansory Corporation. And the opera has another reference to the offered product portfolio by ending after three acts. The LINEA Vincerò edition is also not infinite – the project is strictly limited.

It goes without saying that such a sonorous name is only suitable for an absolutely high-quality programme. Already the Bugatti Veyron serial edition sets standards in terms of price, maximum speed and engine power and leaves its competitors far behind when a contender for the super sports car is to be crowned. Whoever now thinks that everything possible has been achieved, can be proved wrong. Already visually, the changes clearly show. The front part gets a comprehensive face-lift including modified wings, a shorter hood and a striking front apron. The LED daytime running lights integrated in the front mount and the implemented stylised “V” as a special tribute to the name “Vincerò” draw even more attention to the car. The newly developed side skirts are the visual and aerodynamic connection between the axles. Larger air outlets at the sides and at the back render optimal engine cooling and in combination with the new diffuser, they underline the powerful car design. Mansory manufactures nearly all auto body parts from ultra-light and high-strength carbon. The applied hardening technique with strong pressure and high temperatures in the autoclave thereby enormously improve the material quality.

In order to perfect the entire visual appearance, Mansory devised new, striking fully-forged turbine-design wheels for the Linea Vincerò in serial dimensions.

Also, the power engine is refined by Mansory. Technical innovation is combined with technical expertise and thereby, an increased cooling air supply and optimised exhaust system produce an unbelievable 1109 hp and 1310 Nm.

The interior is exclusive and yet functional. Also here, Mansory understands how luxury and technology can be harmonically combined. When traditional craftsmanship, selected materials and stylish design merge, the result is an interior of automobile excellence.

This mainly shows by the LED lights of the new Ambiente-Illumination-System which are fitted in the seats, door linings and the dashboard. Obama’s auto task force heading to Detroit next week

Steven Rattner and Ron Bloom will be heading to Detroit with members of the U.S. Treasury. A spokesman from the White House said that final details of the trip are still being worked out.

Chrysler so far has received $4 billion in government loans and says it needs another $5 billion by the end of March.

The Spyker C8 Aileron is powered by an Audi 4.2L V8 engine making 400-hp with a maximum torque of 354 lb-ft. It is mated to a 6-speed Getrag manual gearbox as standard but buyers can also opt for a ZF 6-speed automatic gearbox which comes with paddle shifters behind the steering wheel. All this power allows for a 0 to 60 mph run in 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 187 mph.

Pricing of the new Spyker C8 Aileron starts at 189,990 euros with the manual gearbox and 195,990 for the automatic option. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in May.

The amount of the loan or the timing of the request to Japan Bank for International Cooperation hasn’t been decided yet; however, spokesman Toyota Tanaka for Mazda said that the automaker is seriously considering requesting a government loan.

Honda, which reported a 38 percent drop in U.S. sales for February 2009, may request up to 10 billion yen ($102 million USD). Toyota was reported to be seeking $2.1 billion.

According to GM COO Fritz Henderson, GM has not thought of reviving merger talks with Chrysler since calling off the negotiations at the end of last year, reports Automotive News.

“We set it aside, it continues to be set aside,” Henderson told reporters at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show.

In its viability plan submitted to the U.S. Treasury on Feb. 17, Chrysler said that it believes merging with GM is the best available option for it to survive.

Joining the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano HGTE Package is the new Ferrari 599XX, a car aimed at a select group of clients incorporating the most advanced technologies from Ferrari’s road-going and F1 research. Based on the 599 GTB Fiorano, the 599XX is an extreme track car.

Modification include a boost in the maximum revs to 9,000 rpms that help get all the power from the V12 700-hp engine to the road. Ferrari says that it paid particular attention to cutting the weight of the engine components with the use of a new new crankshaft and the use of carbon fiber for the intakes. A new gearbox transfers power to the wheels with gearchange time cut down to 60 ms.

For those lucky select group of clients, Ferrari will organize a program of dedicated track events in 2010/2011.

Ferrari at Geneva with the HGTE package for the 599 GTB Fiorano and the world premiere of the 599XX

599XX

While based on the 599 GTB Fiorano with the same transaxle layout and engine type, this prototype is an extreme track car. Ferrari’s engineers have carried out extensive work on the engine’s combustion chambers and inlet and exhaust tracts. These modifications, combined with the fact that internal attrition has been reduced and the maximum revs have been boosted to 9,000 rpm, helped achieve the target power output of 700 hp at 9,000 rpm. Particular attention was also paid to cutting the weight of the engine unit components. This was achieved both by optimising forms - as in the new crankshaft - and adopting exclusive materials, as in the carbon-fibre used for the intake plenums. A new gearbox shift strategy cuts overall gearchange times to 60 ms.

The 599XX is characterised by an innovative electronic concept called the “High Performance Dynamic Concept” which has been designed to get the maximum performance from the car by managing the combination of the car’s mechanical limits with the potential of its electronic controls. The mechanical and electronic systems work together to get the maximum performance from the car under extreme high performance driving, for consistent lap times. The sporty handling has been improved thanks to the adoption of second generation SCM suspension system. Track usage is also made easier thanks to the new “virtual car engineer”, a screen in the car that provides a real-time indication of the vehicle’s efficiency.

The 599XX’s aerodynamics were honed in numerous wind tunnel test sessions with the result that the car now boasts 280 kg of downforce at 200 km/h (630 kg at 300 km/h). The front underside of the body is completely faired-in and the vents that channel hot air from the engine bay have been moved to the bonnet.

The “Actiflow” system increases downforce and/or cuts drag depending on the car’s trim cornering conditions, courtesy of the use of a porous material in the diffuser and two fans in the boot which channel the air flow from under the car out through two grilles next to the tail-lights. Winglets have been added to the rear buttresses to increase downforce. while synthetic jets have also been incorporated into the rear of the car to control and smooth the air flow and to reduce drag.

Ferrari’s engineers have also used F1-derived “doughnuts” which partly cover the brake discs and wheel rim. These have the dual function of improving both aerodynamics and brake cooling.

In terms of the bodywork, composites and carbon-fibre have been widely used and the engineers drew on their experience in working with aluminium to reach the weight target. The development of increasingly high-performance materials has also benefited the carbon-ceramic material braking system. The brake pads are now made from carbon-fibre which means that the calipers are smaller whilst guaranteeing the same efficiency. The new racing carbon ceramic braking system also delivers shorter braking distances and is generally more efficient due to the weight saving.

The 599XX comes with slick tyres (29/67 R19 Front and 31/71 R19 Rear) specifically developed to maximise stability in cornering and increase lateral acceleration. They are fitted to 19 x 11J wheel rims at the front and 19 x 12J at the rear.

Toyota has unveiled its brand new Verso MPV at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show offering European customers more space, comfort and flexibility.

The interior of the new Toyota Verso features an Easy Flat-7 folding system which allows for five rear seats allowing for a total of 7-passengers to ride in the Verso at one time. Toyota says that it has improved the design to offer more room behind the third row of seats for luggage.

With the help of Toyota Optimal Drive technology power has been increased across the range by 20 percent. Fuel-economy and emissions have also improved by 12 percent. The 2009 Toyota Verso will be offered with a new 1.6 and 1.8 Valvematic gasoline engine. They will be offered with a 6-speed manual as standard or a Multidrive S automatic as an option on the 1.8 variant. A revised version of the 2.0L D-4D diesel will also be available. The new diesel option is a 2.2 D-CAT engine with new 6-speed automatic transmission (will join the lineup next year).

Toyota will build the 2009 Verso at its facility in Turkey.

The sensational all-new Hyundai ix-onic concept car, which makes its world premiere at the 79th Salon International de L’Automobile in Geneva, introduces a whole new look for a compact 4×4 SUV.

Assertive, but not aggressive, the ix-onic (pronounced “ik-sonnik”) combines dynamic, sculpted, performance-oriented styling with an environmentally-friendly power train and thoughtful everyday utility, to create a vehicle that will change the way consumers and especially younger car buyers think about compact crossover vehicles.

Hyundai’s design team in Rüsselsheim, Germany views ix-onic as an ‘urban nomad, a car of contrasts for a world of contrasts’. Created in Europe, with European consumers in mind, the new concept is inspired by multi-cultural personalities of cities like Berlin, Paris and London. The ix-onic is tough and compact for life in the city, but sleek and agile for out-of-town travel.

The ix-onic’s specially developed, high-contrast exterior paint emphasises its dynamic and flowing lines. Employing an advanced-effect pigment, the innovative paint gives the car’s skin a brilliant shine.

With an overall length of 4,400mm, the 1,850mm-wide and 1,650mm-high ix-onic has a great stance and road presence. The design team fused a light, elegant and sporty upper body, with belt lines flowing off both the front and rear wheel arches, to a tough, planted lower body so that the concept is assertive in the way it sits on the road.

Key attributes of Hyundai’s ‘dynamic sculpture’ design philosophy are the athleticism and sophistication that ix-onic demonstrates through its dynamic and flowing lines, full surfaces and muscular presence. This athletic design language is highlighted by bold, dynamic graphic elements such as the hexagonal front grille, the dramatically swept back headlamps, the split belt-line and the third side window kick-up.

LED Daytime Running Lights boost brand identity

The hexagonal grille is a further evolution of the style introduced on the 2006 Genus concept car and developed for its appearance on the i-mode concept in 2008. The headlamps feature innovative LED daytime running lights (DRL) which are becoming an increasingly important element of brand identity. For the innovative ix-onic, part of the DRL moves down whenever ‘dipped beam’ is switched on, and DRL are also fitted to the door mirror housings.

The profile of ix-onic features a dynamic greenhouse and a sports car-like theme with a muscular, double-zigzag treatment for the wheel arches that wrap around the 21-inch polished alloy wheels. Unusually, the concave sills have a wedge-shaped profile which extends rearwards and wraps around into the rear bumper. The sills and bumper are finished in a contrasting colour, with an aluminium garnish that echoes the aluminium trim in the door handles to enhance the perception of premium quality.

With high-mounted tail lamps, multi-surfaced glass and a sculpted bumper, the rear of ix-onic also incorporates ‘dynamic design’ elements. The rear lamp clusters feature a grille mesh inspired by the nature, while the rear bumper also neatly incorporates the dual, polished aluminium exhaust tailpipes.

The rear window has been designed and produced by Hyundai in close cooperation with the QarmaQ-partner SABIC Innovative Plastics. Using Lexan high-performance plastics instead of conventional glass enabled the designers to give the rear window a much more three-dimensional shape. On each side of the rear window, two vertical spoilers are integrated to reduce aerodynamic drag. The upper part of the window features a strongly concave shape to make it possible to integrate the roof spoiler in the rear window. Additionally, “Exatec- glazing” was used to incorporate the third stoplight in the upper part of the rear window. Furthermore, a three-dimensional U-shape surrounds the rear wiper to enhance its visual integration into the backlight.

Light and fresh interior seats five in luxurious comfort

Inside, the five-seater ix-onic offers a commanding view of the road and evokes an adventurous ambience that is also laid-back and relaxing. The needs of the driver are fully accommodated, with the interior blending aspects of the outdoors, leisure time and an urban lifestyle.

The first impression of a sporty, light and fresh interior is reinforced on closer inspection by the silky cream-white leather that brings an air of elegance and distinction to the cabin.

An X-shaped visual theme is repeated across numerous areas of the cabin, with embossed leather to accentuate key areas while light-alloy magnesium accents provide flashes of visual brilliance. The sleek shapes of the interior are outlined with ‘ice blue’ seams that replicate the colour of both the ribbed ice blue floor carpet, which contains a high percentage of natural cashmere wool, and the exterior.

Shapely seats feature centre panels trimmed in breathable fabric with attractive and functional cushion side bolsters, plus additional lateral support for occupants’ shoulders – all trimmed in contrasting magnesium grey.

Mounted much higher than usual in the doors, the audio speakers present occupants with a true and highly detailed, top-quality sound reproduction. The interior rear-view mirror has a ‘blind spot’ warning light that alerts the driver to other road users in close proximity.

All-new power train ensures performance lives up to appearance

Beneath its sensational exterior, the ix-onic’s power train is equipped with a 170 PS, 1.6-litre GDi turbocharged, four-cylinder petrol engine, with ISG (Idle Stop & Go) technology and a double-clutch six-speed transmission. Power is transferred to the road by an intelligent four-wheel-drive system fine-tuned to deliver outstanding on-road driving dynamics, together with significant off-road ability. The next-generation, eco-friendly engine emits just 149 g/km of CO2, an impressive figure for an SUV.

Ford aims to cut $10.4 billion in long-term debt

“As part of this debt restructuring plan, Ford Credit has commenced a $1.3 billion cash tender offer to purchase Ford’s unsecured, nonconvertible debt securities, of which approximately $8.9 billion aggregate principal amount is outstanding [...]

FoMoCo said today that it is trying to eliminate up to $10.4 billion of its debt by offering debt-holders cash and stock.

“As part of this debt restructuring plan, Ford Credit has commenced a $1.3 billion cash tender offer to purchase Ford’s unsecured, nonconvertible debt securities, of which approximately $8.9 billion aggregate principal amount is outstanding as set forth in detail in the table below,” Ford said in a statement. ”Ford Credit also has commenced a separate $500 million cash tender offer to purchase Ford’s senior secured term loan debt.

Ford will offer to convert up to $4.2 billion in bonds issued in 2006. For each $1,000 bond, Ford will offer 108.7 shares of its stock plus $80 in cash.

“The tender offers we are announcing today will play a key role in supporting Ford’s plan to create a healthy, profitable enterprise,” said Ford Credit Chairman and CEO Mike Bannister.

FORD MOTOR CREDIT COMPANY ANNOUNCES LAUNCH OF CASH TENDER OFFERS AS PART OF FORD MOTOR COMPANY’S DEBT RESTRUCTURING PLAN

- Ford Motor Credit Company commences $1.3 billion cash tender offer for Ford Motor Company unsecured, non-convertible debt securities

- Ford Credit commences $500 million cash tender offer for Ford’s senior secured term loan debt

DEARBORN, Mich., Mar. 4, 2009 – Ford Motor Credit Company announced today that its Board of Directors and the Board of Directors of Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) have approved a plan to restructure Ford’s debt through a combination of a conversion offer by Ford and tender offers by Ford Credit.

As part of this debt restructuring plan, Ford Credit has commenced a $1.3 billion cash tender offer to purchase Ford’s unsecured, nonconvertible debt securities (the “Notes”), of which approximately $8.9 billion aggregate principal amount is outstanding as set forth in detail in the table below. Ford Credit also has commenced a separate $500 million cash tender offer to purchase Ford’s senior secured term loan debt (the “Term Loan Debt”), of which $6.9 billion aggregate principal amount is outstanding, under Ford’s secured Credit Agreement (the “Credit Agreement’) dated December 15, 2006. No debt securities of Ford Credit are included in these tender offers.

“The tender offers we are announcing today will play a key role in supporting Ford’s plan to create a healthy, profitable enterprise,” said Ford Credit Chairman and CEO Mike Bannister. “It is in Ford Credit’s best interest to advance Ford’s long-term financial stability as it will strengthen our ability to profitably support the sale of Ford products.”

Any Notes acquired by Ford Credit will be retired in settlement of existing intercompany tax liabilities to Ford or in distributions to Ford. Any Term Loan Debt acquired by Ford Credit is expected to be distributed to its parent, Ford Holdings LLC, and forgiven. These payments and distributions by Ford Credit are consistent with its previously announced plans to return capital to Ford.

Notes Cash Tender Offer

Ford Credit is offering to purchase the Notes (the “Notes Tender Offer”) on terms and conditions that are set forth in an offer to purchase dated March 4, 2009 (the “Notes Offer to Purchase”) and the related letter of transmittal (the “Notes Letter of Transmittal”), both of which are being sent to holders of the Notes.

Ford Credit is offering to purchase the Notes set forth in the table below for an aggregate purchase price of up to $1.3 billion (the “Maximum Notes Tender Amount”). If the aggregate purchase price for Notes that are validly tendered exceeds the Maximum Notes Tender Amount, Ford Credit will accept for payment only the aggregate principal amount of Notes that does not result in an aggregate purchase price above the Maximum Notes Tender Amount, and the Notes will be purchased in accordance with the Acceptance Priority Level (in numerical priority order) as set forth in the table below (the “Acceptance Priority Level”).

All Notes tendered having a higher Acceptance Priority Level will be accepted before any tendered Notes having a lower Acceptance Priority Level are accepted. If there are sufficient remaining funds to purchase some, but not all, of the Notes of an applicable Acceptance Priority Level, the amount of Notes purchased in that priority level will be prorated based on the aggregate principal amount tendered with respect to the applicable Acceptance Priority Level. In that event, Notes of any other series with a lower Acceptance Priority Level than the prorated series of Notes will not be accepted for purchase.

The “Notes Tender Offer Consideration” for each $25.00 face amount of the 7.50% Notes due June 10, 2043, each $1,000 face amount of the 7.45% GLOBLS due July 16, 2031, 6 5/8% Debentures due October 1, 2028, 6 3/8% Debentures due February 1, 2029, 8.900% Debentures due January 15, 2032, and 9.980% Debentures due February 15, 2047 and each $5,000 face amount of each other series of the Notes set forth in the table below tendered and accepted for purchase pursuant to the Notes Tender Offer will be the applicable tender offer consideration for each series of Notes set forth in the table below. The “Notes Total Consideration” includes the Notes Tender Offer Consideration plus the early tender premium for each series of Notes set forth in the table below (the “Notes Early Tender Premium” and, together with the Notes Tender Offer Consideration, the “Notes Total Consideration”).

Holders of Notes must tender their Notes before 5:00 p.m., New York City time, on Thursday, March 19, 2009, unless extended (such date and time, as the same may be extended, the “Notes Early Tender Time”) to be eligible to receive the Notes Total Consideration. Holders who tender their Notes after the Notes Early Tender Time will be eligible to receive only the Notes Tender Offer Consideration.

The Notes Tender Offer will expire at 9:00 a.m., New York City time, on Friday, April 3, 2009, unless extended or earlier terminated (such date and time, as the same may be extended, the “Expiration Time”). Notes tendered pursuant to the offer may not be withdrawn, unless otherwise required by law.

The complete terms and conditions of the Notes Tender Offer are set forth in the Notes Offer to Purchase and the Notes Letter of Transmittal that are being sent to holders of the Notes. Holders are urged to read the Notes Tender Offer documents carefully when they become available. Copies of the Notes Offer to Purchase and Notes Letter of Transmittal may be obtained from the Information Agent for the Notes Tender Offer, Global Bondholder Services Corporation, by calling (866) 470-4300.

Consummation of the Notes Tender Offer is subject to, and conditioned upon the satisfaction or, where applicable, waiver of certain conditions set forth in the Notes Offer to Purchase. Ford Credit may amend, extend, or terminate the Notes Tender Offer at any time.

Cash Tender Offer for Senior Secured Term Loan Debt

Ford Credit also has commenced a $500 million cash tender offer (the “Term Loan Offer”) to purchase Ford’s Term Loan Debt. The Term Loan Offer will be conducted on a “Dutch auction” basis whereby term loan lenders will be invited to submit bids to sell their Term Loan Debt within a price range of not less than 38% of par, nor greater than 47% of par. Term loan lenders will receive the lowest price within the range (the “Clearing Price”) at which Ford Credit can complete the Term Loan Offer for $500 million. If the aggregate purchase price for Term Loan Debt tendered exceeds $500 million, Ford Credit will (i) purchase at the Clearing Price all Term Loan Debt tendered at a price below the Clearing Price and (ii) purchase Term Loan Debt tendered at the Clearing Price on a pro-rated basis.

Consummation of the Term Loan Offer is subject to, and conditioned upon the satisfaction or, where applicable, waiver of certain conditions set forth in the offer to purchase.

If the amount of Notes and Term Loan Debt tendered results in a payment by Ford Credit of less than $1.8 billion aggregate consideration, Ford Credit may apply such remaining cash to the repurchase of other debt of Ford through tender offers, exchange offers, privately negotiated transactions, open market purchases or otherwise, or may distribute such cash to Ford for such purpose, subject to any applicable restrictions.

At the end of last year, it was reported that they GT by Citroen could be headed for a limited production of 20 units. According to AutoCar, Citroen product head Vincent Besson, the Citroen GT super concept has now been confirmed for production.

The concept was original designed to be in the Gran Turismo 5 video game but according to Besson, the concept has received huge positive feedback. “We are now thinking of a limited run, possibly as many as 20 units,” Besson told the publication.

Besson did not confirm any specs for the Citroen GT but confirmed that power is likely to come from a GM or Ford V8.

“Electric mobility does have a place in the long-term future,” Winterkorn told Automotive News Europe. However, he said that safe and affordable electric-vehicles for daily use are “very far away.”

“We’re concerned with the best solution, not the fastest solution,” Winterkorn said.

The V-dub CEO said that combustion engines will remain the main powerplant for passenger vehicles for at least 15 to 20 years. He said that Volkswagen will continue to focus on the “further optimization of the combustion engine.”

Schwarzenbauer told Automotive News that time may be right for an allroad in the United States. Audi previously sold an A6 version of the allroad quattro in North America from 2000 to 2005.

The 2010 Audi A4 allroad quattro will be available in Europe later this summer with three engine choices including from a 211-hp 2.0L TFSI 4-cylinder and a 170-hp 2.0 TDI diesel.

Well, he didn’t exactly give us a personal presentation to the 2010 Audi S5 Cabriolet - because that would be weird and out of character for the Governor of the State of California. Honestly, we can’t help but imagine how he would describe the S5 Cabriolet but we’ll leave that part alone.

Arnold Schwarzenegger was hanging out at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show and spent a considerable time hanging out at the Audi booth checking out the new TT RS and the S5 Cabriolet. We’re not sure if he was in town for business or just checking out the show; nonetheless, it’s always fun having the Terminator on hand.

Schwarzenegger along with others that are interested can order a 256-hp 2010 Audi A5 Cabriolet at the end of this year. Of course, we’re guessing the ex-Hollywood star and Governor of California would much rather go for the 333-hp 2010 Audi S5 Cabriolet.

We’re guessing the folks at the Tesla stand weren’t too happy to see Schwarzenegger spending too much time with Audi.

Aston Martin has finally given its upcoming Lagonda brand a star, a concept that helps us all envision what Lagonda will be when it comes to the markets in 2012. So let’s talk about this concept you see here in these pictures. Known as the Lagonda Concept (very creative), the car is a 4-seater with a spacious interior but Aston doesn’t want to call it a crossover just yet. The Lagonda Concept is based on an advanced platform that can accommodate a range of powertrains including flexfuel, diesels and hybrid systems.

However, under this Lagonda Concept seen here, sits a roaring V12 engine that transfers power to all-four-wheels while riding on 22-inch wheels.

Marchionne will be meeting with U.S. Treasury Department’s auto team headed by Steven Rattner who invited him to Washington. Fiat spokesman Gualberto Ranieri said that Marchionne has been asked to detail the “contribution of Fiat to Chrysler in terms of technology and so on.”

Chrysler has already received $4 billion in government loans and is seeking an additional $5 billion. Both General Motors and Chrysler will submit a second report on March 31 showing how they plan on becoming viable in the long-term.

As a part of their proposed partnership, Fiat has agreed to provide Chrysler with small-car platforms and fuel-saving technologies in exchange for a 35 percent stake.

The Mini One Clubman has made its auto show debut in Geneva and is available to order now with prices starting at £13,290 ($19,219 USD). Under the hood is a 1.4L 4-cylinder gasoline engine good for 95-hp. That is mated to a range of fuel-saving technologies such as brake energy regeneration, auto start/stop and shift point display - all which allow the Mini One Clubman to average 44 mpg.

Unfortunately, those frugal fuel-sipping buyers in the U.S. that are getting a watery mouth right now, will be disappointed. The Mini One Clubman is not U.S. bound… as of yet.

That’s right, while the 2010 Mazda3 MPS (2010 Mazdaspeed3) looks totally radical and aggressive on the outside and seems like it could scare the heck out of its predecessor, under the hood is the same 260-hp 2.3L DISI Turbo 4-cylinder that isn’t helping this high-performance hatchback be a truly impressive successor.

That’s right, while the 2010 Mazda3 MPS (2010 Mazdaspeed3) looks totally radical and aggressive on the outside and seems like it could scare the heck out of its predecessor, under the hood is the same 260-hp 2.3L DISI Turbo 4-cylinder that isn’t helping this high-performance hatchback be a truly impressive successor.

We’re not sure what Mazda was thinking but we would’ve been quite satisfied with a 20-hp increase - at least it would have gave the European customers something to feel comfortable about around the 300-hp 2009 Ford Focus RS.

0 to 62 mph still comes in at 6.1 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph.

The probability of you losing your job is much like the political tracking poll - it could be very high one day and it can fall the next (okay we’re just kidding President Obama, sorry). American citizens are in fear and have been cutting back on spending their hard earned cash on costly items. Those looking for a new car are avoiding driving up to a car dealership and February auto sales, which were down to their lowest level in 40 years, are a perfect example.

In Detroit, GM reported the largest drop at 52.9 percent followed by FoMoCo at 48.4 percent. Chrysler was the better part of its to Detroit rivals with a drop of 44 percent.

Japanese automakers also reported a significant drop in February 2009 sales with Toyota reporting the largest drop at 39.8 percent followed by Honda at 38 percent. Nissan reported a decrease of 37 percent.

Subaru and Kia reported a gain of 1.4 percent and 0.4 percent respectively. Hyundai reported a drop of 1.5 percent.

Toyota Motor Corp’s financing arms has asked the Japanese government for a loan as it faces tighter credit due to the global economic crisis. According to company officials, Toyota is looking at a $4.6 billion loss this fiscal year and is seeking a loan of about $2.1 billion through Toyota Financial Services.

However, don’t mistake the choice to seek loan as Toyota being weak.

“Toyota is not in danger. It’s out to get the lowest price for funding that the strength of its credit can get,” Yasuaki Iwamoto, an analyst at Okasan Securities, told Reuters. “On the balance sheet, it doesn’t matter if the funds are private or public.”

A Toyota official, Mio Sugito, said that Toyota Financial Services is in talks with state-back Japan Bank for International Cooperation and is looking for a loan to help cover the rising cost of credit. She said that no decision has been made on the size of the loan or the timing.

The Aston Martin One-77 was revealed today (well, at least the exterior) at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show. What you’re looking at here is the no.1 unit of the One-77 out of the 77 examples that will be produced of this outstanding creation.

Power comes from a 7.3 V12 producing more than 700-hp. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a new 6-speed gearbox allowing the Aston Martin One-77 to spring from 0 to 60 mph in approximately 3.5 seconds. Top speed will be above 200 mph.

Production of the other 76 units of the One-77 will take place this summer with deliveries to begin in early 2010. Pricing details along with the interior are being kept under the wraps for now.

Chris Porritt, Aston Martin One-77 Programme Manager continued: “We wanted to create something that wows you as much when you see what’s under the skin as the exterior styling itself. We started by identifying the most technologically exciting front-engined, rear-wheel drive cars in the world: those from the DTM race series. We then applied the principles and technology that feature heavily in their design and translated it to a road car application.”

Consequently the Aston Martin One-77’s structural core is a lightweight and immensely rigid carbon fibre monocoque. Conceived and designed at Aston Martin’s Gaydon HQ, the monocoque, or ‘tub’, has been built in partnership with Multimatic (MTC). As world leaders in carbon composite technology, advanced vehicle analysis and dynamic simulation, MTC brings unrivalled specialist capabilities to the exacting challenge of the Aston Martin One-77 programme.

Employing the classic formula of double wishbones at each corner, the Aston Martin One-77 features inboard suspension front and rear, with pushrods employed to transfer vertical suspension movements to the horizontally mounted spring/damper units. A practice taken directly from racing car design, the main advantages of inboard suspension are a reduction in unsprung weight and the ability to package the suspension components more effectively.

The dampers are fully adjustable and feature advanced Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve (DSSV) technology; a world-first for a road car application. These special valves are state-of-the-art even at the highest levels of motorsport, and use high-precision machined components to enable the shock-absorbing characteristics of the damper to be changed without having to remove them from the car, as is the norm.

Underlining the truly bespoke nature of the Aston Martin One-77, once delivered to its owner, the car’s suspension characteristics will be precisely set-up by Aston Martin engineers to suit their exact requirements, from settings suitable for the ultimate long-distance GT, to a machine capable of conquering the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

While functionality and efficiency are paramount in the design and construction of the Aston Martin One-77, so too is aesthetic beauty. To this end every single component has been crafted from the finest materials with absolute attention to detail. From the mesmerising weave of the glossy carbon fibre tub and the abstract, sculptural beauty of the dry sump’s oil reservoir, to the unerring precision of the billet machined aluminium suspension mounts, the Aston Martin One-77’s rolling chassis is an automotive masterpiece.

Of course the irony is that the vast majority of these exquisite components will be hidden from view in the finished car, yet each and every piece is a work of art in its own right. It’s this extraordinary workmanship and money-no-object commitment to quality that makes the Aston Martin One-77 unique.

Naturally, such a spectacular chassis demands - and gets - an equally exceptional drivetrain. It comes in the form of an immensely potent 7.3-litre, naturally aspirated V12 engine. Thanks to the adoption of a dry-sump oil system the engine is mounted 100mm lower than in any previous V12-engined Aston Martin road car, which helps keep the Aston Martin One-77’s centre-of-gravity as low as possible. To further aid agility and endow the Aston Martin One-77 with progressive handling and stable, predictable on-limit behaviour, the engine is also mounted 257mm aft relative to the front wheel centreline. In so doing the front-mid-engined layout shared by all of Aston Martin’s current road car range has been taken to a new level.

The Aston Martin One-77’s magnificent power unit is an extreme evolution of the 6.0-litre V12 engines fitted to the Aston Martin DBS, DB9 and new V12 Vantage models. Like the collaboration with MTC for the build of the chassis, Aston Martin has chosen a world-leading partner with which to develop the motor: legendary engine builders, Cosworth. It has proved to be the perfect collaboration, as Chris Porritt explains.

“Our brief to the engine team was for them to take the 6.0-litre V12 as far as it could go, both in terms of output and weight reduction. The targets were a power output of no less than 700bhp with a 10 per cent reduction in engine mass. Incredibly, the Aston Martin and Cosworth engineers achieved a mass reduction of some 25 per cent, and although we’ve yet to complete the final engine calibration work, I’m confident we’ll see in excess of 700bhp. It’s an awesome accomplishment, but one that’s typical of the One-77 project, for it has consistently brought out the very best in everyone involved.”

Wearing Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres (255/35 ZR20 front, 335/30 ZR20 rear) developed specifically for the Aston Martin One-77, all 700+bhp is transmitted to the road through the rear wheels via a new six-speed gearbox. Controlled via column-mounted paddles behind the steering wheel, this robotised sequential manual is a new generation of Aston Martin’s familiar transmission. Though it is made specifically for the Aston Martin One-77 and features specially strengthened internals to cope with the tremendous power and torque, the lessons learned in its development will ultimately find their way into the company’s series production models.

It’s a mark of the inherent capabilities of Aston Martin’s acclaimed lightweight Carbon Ceramic Matrix brake technology that it has been used as the basis for the Aston Martin One-77’s braking system. The internals of the callipers have been re-engineered to transmit less heat from the brake pads into the brake fluid, while the discs themselves have been developed to ensure the maximum possible contact area between the face of the disc and the brake pads for improved stopping power. Due to the Aston Martin One-77’s increased performance, special attention has also been paid to brake cooling, as the brakes have less time to cool between bursts of acceleration.

With a projected weight of 1,500kg the Aston Martin One-77 will occupy the very highest echelons of road car performance. Top speed is confidently predicted to be in excess of 200mph, with a 0-60mph time in approximately 3.5sec. Perhaps more importantly, thanks to the purity of a front-engined, rear-drive layout, the responsiveness and immense tractability of a naturally aspirated V12 and the low mass, high-rigidity properties of a carbon fibre chassis, the Aston Martin One-77 promises a driving experience of unrivalled intensity and excitement while representing the world’s most desirable automotive art form.

Tata Motors today presented at the 79th Geneva Motor Show the Tata Nano Europa, intended for a future launch in select international markets. The company has also displayed the Tata Prima, a concept luxury sedan, and the Tata Indica Vista EV, an electric vehicle based on the award-winning new generation Tata Indica Vista.

Speaking on the occasion at the Geneva Motor Show, Mr. Ratan N. Tata, Chairman of Tata Sons and Tata Motors, said, “In India, the Nano will be launched on March 23, and the cars will be on display at company dealerships from the first week of April. The Nano has also generated wide interest in developed countries, since its unveiling in Delhi and its presentation here last year. What’s (O) LED technology? Those are the lamps that outline the headlights and rear light on the concept - hence the name Light Car Open Source. The driver can design the outlines of the lights to his/her individual taste to give the car a personal appearance.

“We have transferred today’s multimedia and lighting technology standards to the car, and in future want to offer the customer scope for free configuration, as the entire surface of the vehicle functions like the monitor of a multimedia installation, and can be used intelligently and individually,” explains Johannes Barckmann, Head of the EDAG.

Electric-cars just got more personal. Oh, and there are no plans for production whatsoever.

The new BMW Concept 5-Series Gran Turismo is one of the last vehicles of Chris Bangle who recently resigned his position of design head at the Munich automaker. Nonetheless, the design is here to stay and BMW is displaying the new PAS (Progressive Activity Sedan) at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show.

BMW is known for offering concepts that are really close to their final production version - and the Concept 5-Series Gran Turismo is no exception. The production version will make its debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show in Sept. and will go on sale shortly after in early 2010.

The production version is expected to be offered with a choice of a 272-hp naturally aspirated engine and an updated 326-hp 3.0L twin-turbo 6-cylinder in the U.S.

While producing 204-hp the E 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY returns an estimated 44.3 mpg (U.S.). The V6 E 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY Coupe diesel will produce 231-hp with fuel economy coming in at an estimated 35 mpg. The new Rolls-Royce 200EX (aka baby Phantom) has made its public debut at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show. Production of the smaller and “affordable” Phantom will start next year with prices to come between $250,000 and $280,000.

BMW has yet to reveal any official technical specs but we do know that under the hood will be a new BMW V12 engine. The production version of the 200EX is expected to compete with the likes of the Bentley Continental Flying Spur.

Production will take place at Rolls-Royce Goodwood plant. The final production form is expected to debut later this year at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Remember the Koenigsegg Quant Concept Car? Well it turns out the Quant is not just a concept but a four-seater Koenigsegg electric-car developed in collaboration with NLV Solar AG. NLV Solar AG commissioned the new environmentally-friendly supercar and asked Koenigsegg to come up with a design that would incorporate their technology.

NLV’s technology features an advanced electric-power generation and storage system which will allow the Quant to recharge in 20 minutes while providing a range of 500km (311 miles). Additional power comes from a solar panels that cover the body of the car, further increasing the range potential.

The rear-wheel-drive Koenigsegg Quant will produce 512-hp and a maximum torque of 527 lb-ft. That should help it go from 0 to 62 mph in 5.2 seconds with a top speed of 171 mph.

Koenigsegg is working with NLV to create a running prototype to move towards a series production in the near future.

Swedish supercar marque Koenigsegg and NLV Solar AG, a pioneer in photovoltaics and accumulator technology, have joined forces to create the Quant. The brainchild of this marriage of power and energy is a four-seater solar electric car. A full-scale model is to be unveiled at the 2009 Geneva Salon, with the two companies currently working on running prototypes to scale up for series production.

Two companies, one vision

The project was born when NLV Solar AG commissioned the environmentally aware Swedish supercar manufacturer Koenigsegg to develop and design a “car of the future”, incorporating NLV Solar’s groundbreaking, proprietary technology in the felds of photovoltaics and accumulators.

In 2008, the two companies signed a co-operation agreement to create a test vehicle for a unique propulsion system which makes optimum use of the solar technologies developed by NLV Solar AG, allied with an innovative accumulator unit. The groundbreaking thin-flm solar-cell coating is being implemented in one of Koenigsegg’s signature avant-garde designs.

Groundbreaking technology

The advances in electric power generation and storage, combined with the aerodynamic, futuristic Koenigsegg design and engineering, will enable the NLV Quant to charge the FAES(Flow Accumulator Energy Storage) to full capacity in 20 minutes and give the vehicle a range of 500 kilometres. The additional power input from the invisible, thin-flm photovoltaic coating that covers the body of the car, further increases the range potential.

The revolutionary solar and FAES systems enable the design of a fully electrical vehicle, rather than relying on more commonplace hybrid solutions. This also simplifes the drive train layout and packaging, as only one propulsion system is needed.

Given the size of the The NLV Quant, it has an unusually low frontal surface of around 2 m2. This, combined with a drag coeffcient of around CD 0.27 and the effciency of the FAES, will enable the car to cover long distances between charges.

Style and substance

The ingenious Koenigsegg design provides a unique blend of supercar looks and the space of a traditional luxury sedan. The car will carry four large adults in comfort and also feature a spacious boot at the rear.

The gull-wing doors set the NLV Quant apart from any other four-seaters on the market. As well as being a stylish feature, they also make entry to the car more ergonomic, thanks to the lack of B-pillars. They provide easy access to both the front and rear passenger seats. The unique split side-lite feature allows all passenger to open and close the front and rear side windows separately, despite the fact that there is only one door per side.

Unique features as standard

The NLV Quant is rear-wheel drive, with four-wheel brake regeneration, ABS and ESP. It is powered by two electrical AC induction electric motors with variable frequency drive and in-line planetary step down drive, one for each rear wheel. The twin-motor design eliminates the need for bevel gears or a differential, further simplifying the lay-out and giving constant and controlled power proportioning to the rear wheels, in both drive and coast mode.

The projected curb weight of 1780 kg is very light considering that it is a battery-powered, four-seater, luxury performance car. This is partly due to the two-motor installation which weighs in at only 140 kg – a remarkable achievement considering the power output of 512 hp and maximum torque of 715 nm which allows the Quant to deliver 0–100 km/h in 5.2 seconds and hit a top speed of 275 km/h. Another reason for the car’s low weight is the utilisation of a carbon-fibre monotube backbone chassis, construction, which houses the FAES system safely inside the centreline of the car at the lowest possible position, bringing down the centre of gravity and central mass point. The FAES only weigh around 450 kg and contain no hazardous material or heavy metals.

Power comes from a 1.75L turbo-charged 4-cylinder engine producing 240-hp. The production MiTo GTA will arrive in Europe later this year.

That helps the TT RS produce a total of 250-hp with a maximum torque of 332 lb-ft. A 6-speed manual transmission transfers power to the quattro all-wheel-drive system helping the 2010 TT RS Coupe go from 0 to 62 mph in 4.6 seconds (the Roadster takes a second longer). Top speed is limited to 174 mph.

The Audi TT RS:

A Pure Driving Machine developing 340 bhp

Audi is once again producing a five-cylinder engine – and a very special one at that. Arriving at dealerships this summer, the TT RS has a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine with direct gasoline injection; it produces 250 kW (340 bhp) and 450 Nm (331.90 lb.-ft.) of torque. The blazing five-cylinder engine enables the TT RS to perform extraordinary feats. In conjunction with quattro permanent all-wheel drive and a high-performance chassis, the engine makes the compact Audi TT RS a top-notch sports car – available as a coupé or roadster.

Sporty five-cylinder gasoline engines have a long legacy at Audi. The most famous is arguably the turbocharged 2.1-liter engine in the Audi quattro. The first version, which was launched in 1980, offered an impressive 147 kW (200 bhp). And the Sport quattro from 1984, directly inspired by motorsport, delivered a whopping 225 kW (306 bhp). For 25 years, turbochargers and quattro have been a dynamic formula for success.

Audi has resumed using this recipe. Designed from scratch, the five-cylinder engine combines a turbocharger with FSI direct gasoline injection to elevate the TT RS to a high-performance sports car. The TFSI delivers 250 kW (340 bhp) from a displacement of 2,480 cc (151.34 cu in): a specific output of 100.8 kW (137.1 bhp) per liter.

The power-to-weight ratio is also outstanding. In the case of the Coupé, which weighs in at a mere 1,450 kilograms (3,196.70 pounds), the power-to-weight ratio is just 4.3 kilograms per bhp. The Roadster has a weight of 1,510 kilograms (3,328.98 pounds) and a power-to-weight ratio of 4.4 kilograms per bhp – thanks to its extremely lightweight and largely aluminum body constructed as per the Audi Space Frame principle.

The TT RS Coupé rockets from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62.14 mph) in 4.6 seconds; the Roadster needs just a tenth of a second longer. The limited top speed of 250 km/h (155.34 mph) is merely the official figure for both versions; as an option, Audi can increase it to 280 km/h (173.98 mph).

Almost even more impressive is the aggressive pulling power. The maximum torque of 450 Nm (331.90 lb.-ft.) is always available between 1,600 and 5,300 rpm. In addition, the TT RS overtakes without the slightest effort. Last but not least, its engine makes passengers’ skin tingle time and again thanks to its speedy and powerful response, its inspiring free-revving character, and its unmistakably guttural tailpipes: five-cylinder classical music by Audi!

Compact and Lightweight: The Five-cylinder TFSI

As an uncompromising sports-car engine, the 2.5-liter TFSI is ultra-compact. Just 49 centimeters (19.29 inches) in length, it is ideally suited for transverse installation in the TT RS. And its weight of just 183 kilograms (403.45 pounds) also sets a record. The crankcase is made of vermicular-graphite cast iron. This high-tech material unites the utmost in strength with low weight; it has otherwise only been used for the large TDI engines from Audi. Perfectly placed reinforcements enhance the block’s loadability. The lightweight cylinder head, the pistons, and the connecting rod are lightweight as well as high-strength.

The ultra-powerful five-cylinder engine is extremely fuel-efficient, requiring an average of just 9.2 liters/100 km [25.57 mpg] as regards the Coupé (Roadster: 9.5 l/100 km [24.76 mpg]). Switchable flaps in the intake manifold mix the incoming air in a calculated configuration. Injected at a pressure as high as 120 bar by the common-rail system, the gasoline swirls intensely in the combustion chamber – which in turn cools the walls. This subsequently facilitates a compression ratio of 10.0:1, which is very high for a turbocharged engine. Both of the adjustable camshafts, controlled via chains, also enhance charging efficiency with respect to the air-fuel mixture.

The large turbocharger generates up to 1.2 bar of boost pressure. The intercooler, fed air ideally by the lower segment of the single frame radiator grille, reduces the temperature of compressed air by over 80 percent at full load.

When an Audi TT RS driver pushes the standard Sport button on the center tunnel, a flap installed in the left exhaust tailpipe renders the exhaust noise even more robust and intense while boosting engine responsiveness. An optional Sport exhaust system is available with matt black tailpipe trims and sound flap.

For Purists: The Driveline

The Audi TT RS is the first classic sports car in the Audi RS family. Like the RS 4 and the RS 6, the Audi TT RS was developed by quattro GmbH as a pure, no-holds-barred driving machine. A new six-speed manual transmission conveys the engine’s tremendous power, and permits easy and precise operation thanks to a specially designed shift lever boasting particularly short shift travel. The transmission’s defining characteristics are a high efficiency ratio and a sportily narrow spread of the gear ratios.

The Audi TT RS features quattro permanent all-wheel drive as standard equipment. Its heart lies at the rear axle: an electronically controlled, hydraulic multi-plate clutch. If a situation calls for it, the clutch redirects a majority of the torque input from the front wheels to the rear wheels.

Within milliseconds, a powerful electrical pump in conjunction with an accumulator presses together the clutch’s plates via hydraulic pressure. Additions to the quattro powertrain include a constant velocity joint before the propeller shaft and a compact rear-axle differential – both are heavy-duty components.

The quattro drivetrain grants the Audi TT RS outstanding traction, fascinating dynamics, and superb stability. Winding rural routes or some laps around a racetrack allow the superior handling to shine. The precise and responsive steering, the instantaneous reactions of the chassis, the neutrality at the cornering limit, the grip while exiting a curve, and – time and again – the engine’s thrilling power: every mile in an Audi TT RS exudes the distilled essence of sportiness.

High-tech Excellence from Audi: Chassis and Body

The chassis of the Audi TT RS builds on the cutting-edge foundation of the base TT design. The four-link rear suspension, which handles longitudinal and lateral forces separately, plays a crucial role. The electromechanical steering is highly efficient and the power steering adjusts to the vehicle’s speed. With aluminum in the front and sheet steel in the back, the body’s innovative mixture of materials results in a well-balanced axle-load distribution, excellent crash safety, and the outstanding rigidity which lays the cornerstone for the car’s precise handling.

The standard sports chassis, which lowers the body by 10 millimeters (0.39 inches), features tightly tuned springs and shock absorbers. The optional Audi magnetic ride adaptive damping system allows the driver to select one of two modes for the shock absorbers by simply pushing the Sport button. Dynamic mode enables the TT RS to hug the road; Comfort mode provides a pleasantly balanced ride perfect for long journeys.

The sportiest version in the TT model line boasts 18-inch wheels fitted with 245/45 tires. They are complemented by mighty ventilated disc brakes, which measure 370 millimeters (14.57 inches) in diameter at the front and 310 millimeters (12.20 inches) at the rear. So that heat dissipates quickly, the front friction rings are perforated. They, in turn, are connected by hollow pins to the aluminum brake discs, which are encircled by black four-piston brake calipers made of aluminum and bearing RS logos.

The Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP) can be switched off partially or entirely. In Sport mode, the engine does not intervene to monitor traction and, correspondingly, the brakes engage later than otherwise. In the second mode, the ESP is fully deactivated.

The Face of Power: The Exterior

At just 4.20 meters (13.78 feet) in length, the vigorously compact Audi TT RS hints at its explosive potential from the very first glimpse. The front spoiler tapers downward into a splitter, reminiscent of a racing car. The large and squared air inlets have diamond-shaped inserts. And the high-gloss black single frame grille with a frame in matt aluminum look and the TT RS badge bear the same styling. The xenon plus headlights with LED daytime running lights notify faraway drivers that an Audi TT RS is approaching.

The sides of the vehicle are accentuated by large wheels in 5 twin-spoke design, vigorous side sills, and exterior-mirror casings in matt aluminum look. At the tail end, the two large oval exhaust tailpipes – spaced apart – are encircled by a diffuser insert. Here, too, is a TT RS badge. A stationary rear spoiler is standard, though customers can opt for one which automatically extends and retracts. Thanks to a drag coefficient of just 0.3, the 2+2-seat coupé and the two-seat roadster glide effortlessly through the wind. Audi offers the TT RS in eight colors. Among them are four exclusive options: Daytona Gray, pearl effect; Mugello Blue, pearl effect; Sepang Blue, pearl effect; and Suzuka Gray, metallic. The Roadster’s soft top comes in black or dark gray.

Exclusive Character: Interior and Equipment Packages

The dynamic exterior of the Audi TT RS is matched by the interior. The leather multifunction sports steering wheel has an especially thick rim, is flat-bottomed, and is covered with perforated leather. Integrated in the instrument panel, the driver information system can display boost pressure and oil temperature as well as a lap timer for chronicling feats at the racetrack. The door handles consist of two slim strips – typical of Audi RS models. An automatic climate-control system and the concert sound system are standard, as are an electrohydraulic soft top and an electric wind deflector for the Roadster.

The entire interior is black. The heated sports seats feature an Alcantara/leather combination with silver contrasting stitching and embossed TT RS logos in the front backrests. Additional badges and logos appear on the steering wheel, in the rev counter, and on the door sill trims. The inlays are made from brushed aluminum. Floor mats feature silver piping trim; footrests and pedals are in aluminum look.

Audi offers TT RS customers a diverse range of optional equipment: variably styled wheels measuring 18, 19 or 20 inches in diameter; bucket seats with folding backrests; seat upholstery in Silk Nappa leather with perforations or Fine Nappa leather with special TT perforations; inlays with Ibis White or Phantom Black paint finish as well as matt aluminum-look inlays for the exterior. In addition, there are high-tech navigation and multimedia systems available. Sales of the Audi TT RS begin in March; deliveries are scheduled to begin this summer.

Refresher: Power comes from 16kWh electric-motor that runs on lithium-ion batteries - a system known as the Voltec. It can travel 37 miles on electric power alone. After the battery runs out of charge a 4-cylinder engine will kick in providing a range of more than 311 miles. The Ampera can be plugged into any household 230v outlet for charging.

Ferrari’s Geneva presence was centered around the company’s 599 GTB Fiorano. As reported before, Ferrari showed off a new HGTE (Handling Gran Turismo Evoluzione) package for the 599 GTB Fiorano making it more sportier and improving its handling.

The HGTE package includes stiffer springs and rear anti-roll bar along with calibration settings for the magnetorheological shock absorbers when the manettino is at its sportier setting. The package also lowers the ride height offering a more road-hugging drive along with optimized tires that offer better grip.

Ferrari’s HGTE package for the 599 GTB Fiorano also modifies the car’s electronics making the F1 gearbox shifts even faster in high-performance settings. The package also improves acceleration along with a new exhaust silencer that gives out a more thrilling sound.

Appearance wise the HGTE package offers subtle exterior and interior modifications with the use of carbon fiber. 20-inch split wheels are also available with a new diamond-cut and matte-silver finish. The rear diffuser is finished in matte-black. Inside the seats are trimmed in a combination of leather and black Alcantara inserts. The headrests have a Prancing Horse and the words “Handling GTE” stitched in them.
